The Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ) coordinated the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development’s (MMMD) inaugural clean-up campaign on Friday, 5 April. The MMMD Minister Winston Chitando led the state owned enterprises under his portfolio during clean-up at Batanai primary school in Mabvuku last Friday. He was accompanied by his deputy Hon P Kambamura, the Secretary for MMMD, Mr Onesimo M Moyo and directors in the Ministry. MMCZ board members comprising Dr Eng. Mercy Manyuchi, Mrs Rosemary Mukogo and Mr Ignatious Tichivangana as well as Mr Tongai Muzenda, MMCZ’s General Manager graced the event and led the MMCZ team from the front.

Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ) donated goods worth over $200,000 towards victims of cyclone Idai which ravaged the eastern parts of the country resulting in loss of life and property, leaving thousands of people distressed and homeless.

On Friday the 29th of March 2019, the Deputy Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, Honourable Mhlanga received the items which included  2,000 2 ply double and single blankets, 3 tonnes beans, 5 tonnes mealie meal, 1 tonne rice, 2,000 litres cooking oil, 8,000 litres water, 1,000 green laundry bars and reusable sanitary pads.  These were handed over by the Deputy of Ministry of Mines and Mining Development, Honourable P kambamura.

Chrome Smelters in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe has a total of 14 chrome smelters namely Afrochrine, Maranatha, Zimasco , Oliken, Niarchos, ZimAlloys, Jin An, Almid, Wel Mining, Nelson Holdings  Xin Yu, Golden Horizon, Jin Yi Enterprises and Trove Smelter. These smelters have a combined installed capacity of 320,000MT per annum. However, in 2018, a total of 290,092MT was exported owing to a number of challenges. Afrochine emerged as the biggest exporter of high carbon ferrochrome (HCFC) have sold 90 740MT followed by Zimasco with 80 450MT. Zimasco produces HCFC with an average chrome content between 57% and 60% while Afrochine’s product has an average chromium (Cr) content of 54%. Another strong contender with high output was Niarchos (55 660MT averaging 54 – 56% Cr).
