MMCZ Announces new board

The Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe is pleased to announce its new Board of Directors. The board formerly met MMCZ’s management team on the 2nd of November, 2018 where board members were brought to speed on the functions and mandate of the Corporation as represented by the different departments. The team brings together a wide variety of recognized skills, which will be a valuable asset in the execution of the Corporation’s strategy and ensuring that the country’s mineral exports are fully accounted for, to the benefit of the nation.

The new board is chaired by Mr David Murangari, a veteran in the mining industry having worked as a Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Mines and Energy, the Chief Executive of the Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe (COMZ), Chief Executive of Bindura Nickel Corporation (BNC), and a number of mining companies in Zambia and the United States of America. He is the current non-Executive Chairman of ASA Resource Group plc and also a member of the Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation (ZMDC) board, a board which he previously chaired.

Other members of the board are Mr Jemister Chininga, Mr Isaac Kwesu, Dr Eng. Mercy Manyuchi, Ms Esther Maravanyika, Mrs Rosemary Mukogo and Mr Ignatius Tichavangana. Mr Chininga is a business strategy consultant, commercial farmer and a miner. He brings in immense experience from his previous engagements in the mining sector and in government.  Mr Kwesu is the current CEO of COMZ a position he has held since 2014. He currently sits on a number of boards including the Zimbabwe School of Mines and the Mining Industry Pension Fund. Prior to joining COMZ, Mr Kwesu was the Executive Director – Research and Corporate Finance Advisory for MMC Capital. Dr Eng. Manyuchi is the Director in the Mines and Mining Development (MMMD) where she is responsible for research, beneficiation and value addition. She holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering. She is a professional member of the Engineering Council of South Africa, South Africa Institute of Chemical Engineers, Engineering Council of Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Institute of Engineers and the World Federation of Engineering Organizations. Dr. Manyuchi’s work in green initiatives has won several awards including the prestigious German based Green Talents, the SanBioFemBiz, the Research Council of Zimbabwe Outstanding Research Award, the Japanese International Award for Young Researchers and Africa Award for AgriTech Innovators. She brings with her a wealth of experience from having served in various boards including Verify Engineering, Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers and the Zimbabwe Youth Council.

Ms Esther Maravanyika boasts of over 25 years experience working railways companies in different capacities. Her knowledge of the mining industry was augmented when she served in the ZMDC board as a non-executive director between 2012 and April 2018. While there, she chaired the HR and Pensions Committee. Mrs Mukogo is the founder and Managing Director of Green Tourism Services and brings with her invaluable experience from her tenure with the Forestry Commission of Zimbabwe as Chairperson between 2014 and 2016 as well as a board member of Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority between 2002 and 2014. She is the current Chairperson of the Environmental Committee of the Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe (HAZ). Mr Tichavangana is a seasoned metallurgist with over 30 years experience in the mining sector. He currently lectures at the University of Zimbabwe.
