MMCZ Appoints Substantive General Manager The Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ) Board has announced appointment of Dr. Nomusa Jane Moyo as the Corporation's new General Manager, effective 21 January 2025. MMCZ Board Chairman Mr. Jemister Chininga said Dr Moyo – who has been serving as the Corporation’s Acting General Manager since the death of former Corporation Boss, Mr. Tongai Muzenda in April 2023 – has a cumulative acting experience in the role totalling four years, inspiring the Board’s vote of confidence in her appointment. The MMCZ Board sees Dr Moyo's leadership steering the Corporation towards maximisation of returns to all stakeholders through effective monitoring, surveillance, inspection, and marketing of minerals. “Dr Moyo brings 24 years of experience in public entities, having worked with the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority, Grain Marketing Board, and MMCZ since 2009. Her expertise spans corporate governance, law, and economics, with a proven track record of successful leadership during her acting appointments," the MMCZ Board Chairman said in a statement released by MMCZ yesterday. As General Manager, Dr Moyo will lead the Corporation's strategic direction, drive growth, and oversee day-to-day operations, while fostering strong relationships with stakeholders and industry partners. "We are confident that Dr Moyo's leadership and expertise will guide the Corporation towards continued success, creating value for all stakeholders,” Mr Chininga said. In 2024, MMCZ achieved notable successes under Dr Moyo's guidance, including: i. 21% increase in mineral sales: MMCZ recorded a total of 3.9 million metric tonnes in mineral sales, up from 3.2 million metric tonnes sold over the same period in 2023. ii. Export Market Development: The Corporation managed to create additional markets for mineral products in destinations such as Australia, China, Colombia, Burundi and India. iii. Curbing Mineral Leakages: MMCZ invested in equipment for local government laboratories to enhance assay and characterization processes. iv. Value Addition and Beneficiation: In the year under review, MMCZ established a gemstone cutting and polishing training centre at the Zimbabwe School of Mines. Dr Moyo is a lawyer who holds a Doctorate degree in Laws (specialising in corporate governance), Masters in Laws, Bachelor of Laws, Full CIS and Bsc Honours in Economics. She is also a member of the Law society of Zimbabwe and Chartered Governance and Accountancy Institute of Zimbabwe.
